Gate Indicator disappears when a MIDI track exists
#1
If I set any track to be a MIDI-type track, for some reason it prevents the right side of the Sequencer screen from showing the Gate Indicator next to the corresponding Note and Modulation Indicators there, even though the Modular Gate itself is still accessible through other tracks or FX, and even though the related CV(note) and MOD indicators are still showing up properly.  To be clear, the gate output itself does still work - it just isn't showing on the display.  And yes, I verified that the "Clone to Modular" option is turned OFF, so this MIDI track shouldn't be impacting the modular outputs.

I've also verified that it is an issue regardless of which track is set to MIDI.

I can use an LED cable to visualize the gate if I need to, so this isn't a show stopper.

In a Midi track it shows if any Midi Note in this track is on or off and not the modular Gate anymore.

Hmm, well that doesn't seem to be what it's doing.  The columns are in disagreement with each other? (i.e. the gate indicator doesn't correspond with the note indicator it is next to?)

Hmm, looking at it more, I am talking about the status display on the Sequencer screen, not inside of a track. Since there are only 6 rows on that part of the screen (and not 8) it visually implies that those rows should be showing status of the six rows of outputs, not of the 8 available tracks (especially since a MIDI track can hold more than one column of notes, hmm.) But, whichever way it is intended to be, it is definitely currently mis-matched, because the gate isn't reflective of the note showing up next to it. I would personally suggest showing MIDI status only when in the MIDI pattern screen, or by way of a highlight at the top of the MIDI track's column rather than by partially overwriting the modular status in a way that isn't labeled.

It shows only the Midi Data for that tracktype and no gate data for the modular output.
If at any column a Midi note on appears then the indicator is on and if all notes are off then the indicator is off.

Tracks 7 and 8 are different and not involved in the update of the sequencer screen.

As a sidenote: it used to be the gate but people wanted the midi data to show up, so I did that. I don't know when exactly and I won't look it up now.

But it isn't showing the corresponding notes then, which is what I don't understand.  The gate and the note name (CV column) are unrelated to each other currently.  A note  name showing up with no gate, usually in my case.  Even though the gate is happening.

Maybe I will make a feature request, in the other forum topic, but I would like to be able to specify for my project that I always only want to see the outputs there.  The other thing it's doing is nonsensical at least in my setup...  as it isn't even showing MIDI data correctly.

It doesn't show the note because they are 4 columns. Which one should it show? (Even though all 4 could be controlling a different device). I don't think it would make sense, so I limited it to 'a note is playing'.

I understand that, and if all I was doing was a single track with MIDI, that would be a useful "LED"-like indicator.  But in my application, all its doing is breaking the gate indicator I wish I could see.  My note and mod are showing up fine next to it.  And I don't want them also to get broken.  I just wish i could disable the roll-up behavior that's making one of my gates show a MIDI output dot instead.

Right now, I play a chord with four notes, and I see right now which four notes (very good, that's what I want to see) but only three of the four active gates show up, the other one is always dark.  The so-called MIDI gate is just a red herring, as it is not even related to the other data on the same line.

Maybe the MIDI track gate could go in the header at the top of its track column (where I'd say it very properly belongs) instead of overwriting the output gate's visual indicator?

But basically,  I don't need any MIDI indicator myself, and I would love an option to always only show the six gates, CVs, and MODs in that area, as anything else other than that isn't related to the other data in the grid, looks like something is glitched, and just creates confusion.

I think i was clear, but just in case, I tried to roughly mock-up a diagram showing what i'm currently getting behavior-wise out of that grid.

I thought of another idea that might be an easier way to satisfy both needs ... maybe if the note name was in "even row" color whenever the output gate is on, and shaded or "odd row" color when the output gate is off. That way the dots on the left would be entirely redundant and the lack of a dot wouldn't actually impact me (still look weird, but not affect my workflow) because I could still tell whether my gate is on or off by looking at the note name's color.

We are getting there....think further and find a good combination to get the best of both worlds Big Grin
